Job Description:
Details: SNL Pakistan�s news team seeks an experienced copy editor/proof-reader to ensure accuracy, clarity and consistency of newsletters and on-line news content produced in real time. If you read newspapers with a red pen in your hand, and spelling errors and poor grammar send chills down your spine, this is the ideal position for you.
Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing the compilation and completion of designated stories in his/her assigned news group. Writes and edits stories for publication. Assists in day-to-day administration and management of workflow. Enforces procedural and operational discipline within news group.
Principal Duties:
o News editing. Edits stories as required, with an eye toward clarity, accuracy and consistency with SNL procedures.
o Training. Works one-on-one with editors and writers in India and Pakistan offices to improve written English of existing India/Pakistan news workforce.
o News writing. Writes stories as assigned.
o Completes other assignments or projects as assigned.
Education: Degree in English, writing or a related subject.
Experience: High-level written English language ability. Minimum 1 � years of journalism or equivalent external experience preferred. Prior news writing experience such as a newspaper, magazine or newsletter. Fluency in journalistic areas (AP style, libel issues, etc.) Editorial skills helpful.
Skills Required:
Specific Skills: Incumbents must possess competency in word processing and spreadsheet software. Must demonstrate high-level English language ability, and demonstrated editing competencies.
Special knowledge, licenses, etc: Complete, highly specialized expertise and knowledge of assigned industry required. Knowledge of Quark, Adobe PhotoShop, and desktop scanning.
Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment. Good understanding of grammar, vocabulary and punctuation. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills. Meticulous attention to detail; commitment to producing quality product; deadline conscious. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and deadlines. Must be a self-starter. Ability to troubleshoot systems and editorial problems as it pertains to deadlines. Analytical ability.
Misc: This position requires a GRE-English based writing test to gauge English grammar skills as the target audience of our newsletters is in the United States. |
