In my role as a Policy Advisor and Briefings Officer at DSIT, I engage in various tasks spanning stakeholder engagement, drafting briefings and speeches, and coordinating with external parties via email for events and management. Specifically, I collaborate closely with ministers and other government departments, contributing significantly to initiatives such as the Digital Skills Council. One recent instance showcasing my ability to thrive under pressure was when I drafted a briefing for the Minister for the Tech Digital Economy for a Google summer party within a tight four-hour window. Proficient in Microsoft and Google applications, I frequently utilize tools like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to create documents and briefings for ministers, highlighting my adeptness with IT systems. Additionally, my effective teamwork is evident in instances where I’ve produced briefings within tight timeframes and collaborated with internal and external stakeholders, such as during my involvement in London Tech Week. A notable example of my proactive approach and ability to multitask occurred when a colleague sought assistance with conducting due diligence checks for London Tech Week. I promptly referred to guidance to ensure proper procedures, efficiently conducted checks while monitoring incoming requests, and facilitated feedback to streamline the process and alleviate workload. Furthermore, I led efforts to identify areas for enhancing the UK’s digital skills, drafting a comprehensive policy paper outlining initiatives such as apprenticeships, R&D tax credits, and funding for SMEs. Through extensive research and analysis, I recommended adjustments to the apprenticeship system and highlighted the importance of integrating digital skills into the educational framework to address the global digital skills crisis and achieve the UK’s ambitions as a science and technology superpower by 2030.
