•Aware of hospital policies and reinforces same in practice
•Make every effort to expand clinical skills, seeking out available resources
•Supportive and considerate to new staff when offering criticism; provide positive suggestions for correction and improvement
•Seek and welcome criticism in order to improve performance
•Monitor dress code, efficiency, attendance and punctuality of the staff
•Take a leading role in the development of unit standards. Actively participate in follow up of supervision/audit recommendations
•Contribute to the creation of a working environment that fosters positive staff morale and motivation
•Assist the Manager / A. Manager in annual budget preparation
•Supervise the allocation of unit resources, remaining accountable to the approved budgetary limits
•Hold regular scheduled staff meetings with an agenda that allows for staff input and open discussion at unit level
•Establish a collaborative working relationship with clinicians, diagnostic and support services in order to facilitate the timely delivery of patient care
•Respond quickly and appropriately in conflict or crises situation
•Maintain accurate records of all events relating to staff, patient or the unit
•Set and communicate clear and appropriate expectations for nursing practice and patient care
•Coordinate unit-based in-service programs to upgrade staff skills and knowledge level
•Develop & implement unit-specific orientation program for new staff
•Plan professional development activities for all unit staff
•Encourage creativity initiative and innovativeness in nursing staff
•Participate actively in inter and intradepartmental activity regarding quality assurance
