Shorkot Cantt located in District Jhang is a congested town in middle three Tehsiles of Punjab Province. Population of Shorkot Cantt is approximately 50,000. The biggest identity of Shorkot Cantt is Pakistan’s second largest Air Base, PAF Base Rafiqui. In Shorkot Cantt, the main issue is lack of basic healthcare facilities.
There are several communities within Shorkot Cantt area and the pressure of population for inadequate infrastructure resulted in acute problems of health, sanitation, education and environment. Moreover, patients have to travel approximately 25 KM for accessing hospital. Under such circumstances, educated youth and few elderly persons organized themselves in a community-based organization to work for the welfare of Shorkot Cantt residents. While addressing major problems as health and medical facilities, they decided in meeting with the then Base Commander PAF Base Rafiqui, Air Marshal R Arshad Malik HIM SIM TIM to set up a Hospital and constituted an organization under the name of “RAFIQUI SHAHEED WELFARE TRUST HOSPITAL” in October, 2011. The humble work for the uplift of the community had paved the way for a “Social Welfare Complex” as of today.
