Mahmood Shah
Dr. Mahmood-ul-Hasan is a Professional Archaeologist and Museologist. He has a Ph.D. in Asian Civilizations from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He served in the Department of Archaeology and Museums DoAM, Pakistan from 1990 to 2023. He got initial trainings in Field Archaeology and Museology from Pakistan Institute of Archaeological Training and Research, Lahore, Pakistan, JAICA, Japan and Council of American Overseas Research Centers CAORC. During his long service in DoAM, he carried out extensive archaeological surveys and excavations throughout Pakistan. He reorganized Sibi Museum, Taxila Museum and Islamabad Museum. He remained part of the management and conservation team of the World Heritage Sites of Taxila. From 2006 to 2023 he remained in-charge of the professional section of DoAM, Islamabad. As In-charge of the professional section he was responsible for overall control of museums under the administrative control of DoAM, arranging international exhibitions of the cultural heritage of Pakistan. Coordination with the national and international agencies to control the illicit export of cultural property from Pakistan. International cooperation in the fields of cultural heritage. Implementation of the UNESCO Conventions concerning cultural heritage. He retired from the service in October, 2023 as Deputy Director Museums. At present he is associated with a project of the Korea Heritage Agency titled “Development of Cultural Promotion and Tourism Resources Centre for Gandhara Heritage of Pakistan at the Department of Archaeology and Museums DOAM, Islamabad”.
