Ameer Hassan
I’d like to begin by providing some useful context: Since 2004 the last 15 years or so I have been teaching languages French and Spanish at a variety of schools British, American, International, local-Pakistani British, etc. and educational systems mainly the IB – DP and MYP and the CIE, Edexcel & the IGCSE across Pakistan to students in the age range of 7-19. During this time I have also been fortunate to be an Examiner, Moderator and Monitor, again, mainly in both the IB and other educational systems. While I cannot discount the value of any of these experiences as all of these have added to my development and professional competence, I feel that my experience in teaching French and Spanish at British International School , C.A.S. School, The International School and Beaconhouse School has, perhaps, been the most rewarding, especially when pitted against the fact that I’m a native Turkish and Pakistani. In fact it is this ability that has often allowed me to make special inroads with my students here in Pakistan. As I say this, in the back of mind, I am thinking of the special significance to me of the well known Sapir Whorf hypothesis: the structure of languages determines the way people think.
