On the surface, working for yourself as a professional freelancer seems like a pretty sweet gig. You don’t have to answer to a boss, and you have the ostensible advantage of determining your own destiny. But all is not candy canes and lolly pops in the land of freelancing, as you will shortly see. You’re essentially running your own business, and it takes a lot of effort and know-how to really succeed. I learned this for myself, and I often did it the hard way. After working off and on in the freelance writing game for nearly a decade, here are a few of the more important lessons I’ve managed to learn.
