A biodiversity professional and practitioner having working experience of more than 34 years at the desk and in the field for protection of biodiversity and ecological process through transformative regulatory framework of the government with active support and participation of the local communities and allied conservation organizations in the area. Having a Master’s degree in Biodiversity and Conservation from University of Leeds, UK, A Master’s degree in Forestry from Pakistan Forest Institute, Peshawar and a Master degree in Zoology from Peshawar University with specialization in Fisheries with a distinction of a Gold Medal, and 34+ years of experience in biodiversity conservation, wetland management, governance, stakeholder facilitation, and spatial planning. Highly experienced programme and policy expert in managing environmental, biodiversity, and conservation projects. Proven record of working with UN agencies e.g., UNDP, FAO, UNEP, and other conservation organizations like, IUCN, WWF, ICIMODE, overseeing multi-stakeholder coordination, logistics, budgeting, and field operations. Skilled in planning, executing and monitoring complex programmes, with a solid background in gender-sensitive, community development, capacity building, and public sector reform. Known for fostering cross-sectoral partnerships and implementing inclusive development models aligned with SDGs and UN values. Skilled in supporting NBS implementation, government advisory, and conservation project alignment. In my role as Chief Conservator Wildlife KP and Additional Director General Biological Sciences & Education at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department and Pakistan Forest Institute, Peshawar, I led a team that successfully designed and implemented the Billion Tree Tsunami Afforestation Project towards Establishment of Forest Closures, Bamboo Resource Assessment in Punjab INBAR funded, Forest Landscape Restoration FAO funded, Study on Sustainability of Fuelwood Tree Species for Tobacco Curing in Pakistan, etc. This initiative resulted in an increase of at least 3% forest cover in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; the first ever objective bamboo assessment in Punjab and ensured fuel sustainability of fuelwood for tobacco barn in Pakistan, which have positive impact on reduction in flood-related risks for vulnerable communities and the development of a resilience and adaptation strategy adopted by regional governments. My approach focuses on leveraging data-driven insights, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and aligning strategies with global frameworks such as the Paris Agreement and UN Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
